Professor of Spatial and Environmental Planning with specialization in tourism planning at the Department of Planning and Regional Development, University of Thessaly-Greece (2002-2018).

Professor of Environmental Planning, Department of Environmental Studies, University of the Aegean-Greece (1985-2002)

 

Also from 2004 to 2009: various positions as CEO at Hellenic Tourism Development Co., which manages the public tourism property in Greece.  Special Secretary for Strategic Planning at the Ministry of Tourism, Greece and President of the Greek National Tourism Organisation. 

 

Extensive international scientific-research. Has directed and participated in more than 50 national and international research programmes of integrated multidisciplinary issues in respect to development, tourism, spatial planning, environmental management and planning.

 

Consultant and scientific advisor in international organizations (European Commission, OECD, World Bank, FAO, UNEP, UNESCO, etc.) for spatial planning and environmental management, coastal area management, planning for tourism and environment, insular development with assignments in Mediterranean and African countries (Albania, Croatia, Slovenia, Cyprus, Tunisia, Morocco, Lebanon, Israel, Syria, Malta, Kenya, Tanzania, Comores, etc.).


Has written-solely or in collaboration - 12 books and more than 90 scientific articles or chapters in international journals and books for spatial planning and environment, tourism, sustainable development, insular development, etc. Furthermore, has an extensive number of presentations and publications in international and Greek scientific conferences.

Member in international and Greek scientific Associations and societies.
