• 2021; Support to the Italian process of Maritime Spatial Planning through the EU-funded MSP-MED project. Client: National Research Council – Marine Sciences Institute. Role: senior expert involved on: analysis of interactions among maritime uses, planning of maritime sub-areas, organisation of the process of stakeholder engagement, transational consultation in the Adriatic maritime area.
• 2020-2021; Mediterranean MSP Toolbox: development of the concept for an on-line MSP workspace for the Mediterranean region, also including a tool library on following MSP-related aspects: climate change adaptation, ecosystem approach, land-sea interactions and governance. Client: UNEP-MAP PAP/RAC. Role: MSP consultant.
• 2011-2021; Member of the ETC-CCA – European Topic Centre on Climate Change Impacts, Vulnerability and Adaptation. Client: EEA - European Environmental Agency. Role: content developer of Climate-ADAPT, case studies on climate change adaptation, study on transboundary cooperation on climate change adaptation (coordinator), study on Nature Base Solution (NBS) for climate change adaptation (coordinator), study on assessment of NBS for climate change adaptation (coordinator), senior expert on coastal and marine issues.
• 2020; Study on trends and outlook of marine pollution from ships, maritime traffic and offshore activities in the Mediterranean. Client: T-ELIKA on behalf of Regional Marine Pollution Emergency Response Center (REMPEC). Role: senior expert.
• 2019-2020; AdriAdapt – A resilience information platform for Adriatic cities and towns. Clients: UNEP-MAP PAP/RAC and University IUAV of Venice. Role: consultant on the design of the resilience platform, development of a catalogue of adaptation option, elaboration of case studies, training, strategic guidelines for Adriatic cities, methodological framework for integrating climate change mitigation and adaptation into MSP.
• 2019; Development of recommendations for a common approach towards sub-regional MSP in the Adriatic Sea. Client: UNEP-MAP PAP/RAC. Role: MSP consultant.
• 2018-2019; PHAROS4MPAs – Analysis of interactions between Marine Protected Areas and maritime transports and port activities in the Mediterranean, and identification of recommendations. Client: WWF Mediterranean. Role: senior expert.
• 2016-2019; Consultancy to support PAP/RAC in preparing the Conceptual Framework for MSP and the Common Regional Framework on ICZM in the Mediterranean, in the context of the Barcelona Convention and related Protocols. Client: UNEP-MAP PAP/RAC. Role: MSP consultant.
• 2017-2018; Elaboration of recommendations and a methodology to perform analysis of land-sea interactions within MSP and ICZM, in the context of SUPREME and SIMWESTMED projects and in the frame of the Barcelona Convention and related Protocols. Client: UNEP-MAP PAP/RAC. Role: consultant on MSP and Land Sea Interactions.
• 2016-2018 – MUSES Multi-Use in European Seas. Client: INEA on behalf of European Commission; project funded through H2020 EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation. Role: coordinator of WP3 – Case studies on multi-use of marine areas.
• 2016-2018; European MSP Platform – Assistance Mechanism for the implementation of Maritime Spatial Planning: a service to Member States to share relevant knowledge and information on MSP. Client: EASME on behalf of European Commission – DG MARE. Role: main MSP expert for Eastern Mediterranean.
• 2017; Recommendations for conducting analysis of land-sea interactions, combining MSP and ICZM” in the context of SUPREME and SIMWESTMED projects and in the frame of the Barcelona Convention and related Protocols. Client: UNEP-MAP PAP/RAC. Role: consultant on key MSP issues and Land Sea Interactions.
• 2017; Elaboration of recommendations and guidelines for a common understanding on a regional scale, and specifically for the Eastern Mediterranean, on MSP” in the context of SUPREME project and in the frame of the Barcelona Convention and related Protocols. • 2015-2016; Design of adaptation measures for the reduction of the vulnerability of the Carmen-Pajonal-Machona lagoon system (Tabasco) to the impacts generated by climate change and human activities. Client: IMTA – Instituto Mexicano de Tecnología del Agua e INECC – Instituto Nacional de Ecología y Cambio Climático, with World Bank funds. Role: technical coordinator and project manager.
• 2011-2013; Technical service to Veneto Regional Authority within the Shape project: Shaping a holistic approach to protect the Adriatic environment between coast and sea – IPA Adriatic Cross Border Cooperation Programme. Role: coordinator of WP4 on MSP and expert on MSP-ICZM and Barcelona Convention framework.
• 2011-2013; Sustainable management of the Venice lagoon in the context of climate change and sea level rise: vulnerability assessment and design of a climate change adaptation plan; study carried out in collaboration with the Sustainability Solution Institute and SCRIPPS Institute of Oceanography – University of California San Diego. Client: Venice Water Authority, through its Concessionary Consorzio Venezia Nuova. Role: technical coordinator.
